REM Private Investigations & Security, LLC was established in 2007. Its founder and president, Robert E. Mladinich, served the NYPD from 1983 to 2003, when he retired with the rank of Detective Second Grade.

Robert is also a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the state of New York, which enables him to provide expert biopsychosocial assessments for Family Court proceedings, as well as pre-sentencing and mitigation reports for clients charged or convicted of criminal offenses.

In addition, Robert is an investigative journalist, who has authored or co-authored four true crime books: From the Mouth of the Monster: The Joel Rifkin Story (Pocket, 2001); Lethal Embrace (Pinnacle, 2007); Hooked Up for Murder (Pinnacle, 2007); and Undisclosed Files of the Police: Cases from the Archives of the NYPD from 1831 to the Present (Black Dog & Leventhal, 2016).

Besides his extensive NYPD training, Robert has a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from the State University of New York at Brockport and a Master’s of Social Work (MSW) from Adelphi University in New York.
